The newcomers are infinitely more interesting than the pair to have raced and from a shortlist of PLEA, Clarke Lane and Ahtoug, it is the first-named who is fancied to come home in front. John Gosden's Motivator colt is a half-brother to Ask and is one of the most beautifully bred fellows in training. Whatever he does at two will be a bonus but he is a fascinating contender and may just be good enough to win first time up. King Of Aquitaine has a more precocious pedigree but there is plenty of class there being out of a dam who was Listed class and from the family of a Ribblesdale Stakes winner, whilst Ahtoug is another impeccably-bred colt but this trip might be a bare minimum at this stage. Clarke Lane cost $190,000 and is the first foal of a dam who won the American Oaks over ten furlongs, Indian Ballad needs a market check for a yard who landed a juvenile gamble the other day, whilst Tom Tate has his newcomers in great form so My Single Malt is far from discarded. Loves Theme and Jossy Johnston were both well back on their relative Doncaster debuts over the minimum trip, so this can go to a newcomer, namely Plea.
