In depth

Verdict

A surprisingly low turnout and Welsh Emperor is preferred to Philharmonic and My Paris. Tom Tate has a history of plundering races at Haydock and the seven-year-old confirmed his well-being with a recent victory at Thirsk. There appears to be little more to do here. Philharmonic was always going to find life tricky against Etlaala and so it proved on the racetrack. That was a fair effort under the circumstances and he should run his usual race. My Paris was well beaten in the Lincoln on his previous outing this term. It could be that the soft ground caught him out on this occasion and that the return to a smaller field and a faster surface suit. Majors Cast was a progressive sort last term but probably would not want the going to be quite so quick. Andronikus is dropped in grade after a tilt at the top grade at Newmarket last term. Indian's Feather is thoroughly outclassed. Having considered the alternatives, we stick with Welsh Emperor.
