STARSPANGLEDBANNER should relish the return to six furlongs and assuming his fine second in the Nunthorpe hasn't put him over the top he should win. Aidan O'Brien's Antipodean import is the quickest around and whilst he coped with the drop to the minimum trip at York he never looked totally comfortable. The Golden Jubilee and July Cup winner can win this before heading off to stud. Rainfall could have gone for the Matron Stakes at Leopardstown so it is interesting that she heads here instead and this filly has a high cruising speed so she should cope ok with the drop in trip. Last year's winner Regal Parade is on a hat-trick following a Group One win at Deauville and he is a major player here with no penalty for any of his wins over the past twelve months. At a price Markab could bounce back to form (poor behind Regal Parade at Newbury) but a more obvious danger is Kingsgate Native who didn't sparkle at York but the return of Ryan Moore is a plus and so is the longer trip today. Borderlescott is the darling of Yorkshire after his latest Group Two win at Goodwood and he ran a cracker in the Nunthorpe, especially given his interrupted preparation having pulled up lame after the line down in Sussex. If there's to be a major shock in the race then it might come from Prime Defender who seems to run above himself when surrounded by quality.
