In depth

Verdict

Houghton, Mushtaaq and Pure Song make most appeal in this maiden and the vote is given to HOUGHTON. Sir Michael Stoute's colt is perhaps not the most straightforward and he ran in snatches with the first-time visor on at Leicester last time when he was third behind Factotum. He does not lack for ability though and with this step-up in trip in his favour he looks the one to beat. Mushtaaq shaped with promise on his all-weather debut last time but he is a bit one-paced and he shapes as though he will be better with a further step-up in trip. Pure Song finished third behind Rio Guru at Wolverhampton last time over 1m4f when she looked as though she was crying out for a step-up in trip. She gets that here so it will be interesting to see if she can find any improvement. Flam did not get home over 2m last time but there is clearly a race to be won with her somewhere. Houghton makes most appeal and is put forward as the pick.
