Mannlichen has to be on the short-list along with Barwell Bridge but we'll opt for WHEN DOVES CRY. The market should prove useful as several of the more interesting runners in this field require one more run in order to qualify for a handicap mark and the ring may provide some guide to expectations. Mannlichen has already dipped his toe into the waters of handicap company and has come up short; connections will be hoping that the return to maiden company provides him with the opportunity to open his account. Kaolak showed promise on debut but failed to build on that at Yarmouth where the soft ground may have proved detrimental to his chances. Rebel Swing and Eastern Warrior are two more to have hinted at ability whilst Barwell Bridge went into a number of notebooks following his debut run at Goodwood. It is, however, a concern that he has been absent since that run in May although the yard's juveniles continue to run well enough. The selection ran well enough over an inadequate trip at Haydock first time out in an average race and ran to a similar level of form when staying on at the one pace in another modest race over a furlong further. She won't come into her own until handicapping over middle distances next year but this further step up in trip will suit and When Doves Cry may be able to find enough to take this.
