A tricky opener with little between those with experience over hurdles and a couple of interesting newcomers. Apache Drums improved dramatically on his latest start on the Flat and looks a hurdling type as does Hows The Chap, whose two runs for Willie Mullins have shown potential. Days Ahead was controversially awarded a maiden at Galway after finishing runner-up to Magical Memoir so it was no surprise when he was beaten by that one under his penalty on softer ground at Listowel. Silas Mariner, who finished a very close third in the latter race, set the pace and kept on so the testing conditions here will be in his favour and he can reverse the form. WHISPER COOL had been progressing nicely on the level before making a winning start over timber at Killarney when well supported. He's since won a handicap at Dundalk and can continue his good run here. One For Joules is another to make a winning hurdling debut and there was plenty to like about his comfortable victory over Lil Ella at Clonmel last week.
