Verdict

The market has proved to be a decent guide to this contest with no winner in the last 10 years returned at larger than 5-1 so close attention should be paid to the betting. TIGER EYE is the suggestion with Victoria Sponge and Sterling Sound two that have shown enough to indicate that they can be competitive here. Michael Jarvis and Philip Robinson combined to win this race with a debutante in 2004 and, if entries are anything to go by, they may be able to repeat the feat with their Danehill Dancer filly. Dane's World and Equinine are other newcomers with big targets already pencilled in and the market may guide to today's expectations but Victoria Sponge looks sure to be popular following a decent introduction at Windsor. She wasn't given too hard a time of things there and should improve significantly for the experience. Sterling Sound is arguably open to less improvement given that she's had three starts already but she showed good speed and a decent attitude at Lingfield last time and they are both attributes that should stand her in good stead here. Her trainer won this race three times in succession at the turn of the century. Danzadil is from a small yard but caught the eye on debut in a fair race and could be of interest at a price but the big stables have dominated this race and can continue to do so with Tiger Eye taken to do the honours.
