Sir Michael Stoute has a fine record in this race and Colony is sure to be popular; a host of others have chances but we're going to take a chance with NORTH PARADE. Trying to predict how a race will be run seems to be an increasingly futile task these days but there will surely be plenty of pace here with Detonator and Always Bold proven over further and Love Galore stoutly bred. That may just help those drawn low (usually at a disadvantage) to tuck in and get plenty of cover before making a move in the straight; that, at least, is part of the reasoning for siding with North Parade. Brian Meehan pitched his colt straight into a Group 3 on his seasonal return and he still holds an entry in the Leger; he won his maiden well enough and is on a potentially decent mark if he finds as much improvement as is expected. He will need to go very close to justify the lofty ambitions. Swinging Sixties has raced prominently in the past and could use up too much energy if trying to tack across from his low draw early on but he has a master tactician in the saddle and his chance is respected. None of the Mark Johnston quartet can be dismissed - My Aunt Fanny steps up in trip and grade but is progressing rapidly, Manyriverstocross has a 13lb swing in the weights with Savarain on their course and distance running in May but may not want the ground too fast, Mystery Star should improve for this trip but Goodwood Starlight and Colony have more obvious claims. The latter won well at Ascot but is 9lbs higher, will need some luck if he's held up again and is likely to be short enough. Goodwood Starlight is 8lbs higher and stepping up in trip but he should improve for it and has track form to his name already. Both are major players but are passed over in favour of North Parade in this fiercely competitive contest.
