It's hard to escape the claims of BORDERLESCOTT, whose enthusiasm knows no bounds and he is taken to confirm his superiority over Spin Cycle and Amour Propre as he bids to better his finishing position (fourth) in this race last year. Having also finished as runner up in two previous Stewards Cups, the idiosyncrasies of Goodwood's sprint track hold no fears for Robin Bastiman's gelding and this tough-as-teak performer is the logical choice today. Amour Propre represents a yard that has enjoyed a cracking spell recently and, although he needs to pull something out of the fire to get the better of the selection, he can represent good value to claim a place in the frame. The same comments apply to Spin Cycle, who has already finished behind Bastiman's stable-star three times since the start of May. However, the four-year-old will enjoy the conditions and at least has experience of racing at this unique course. Others for the shortlist include: Triple Aspect, who comfortably held Group Therapy in a Group 3 at Sandown earlier this month - a return to form after being outclassed behind Starspangledbanner in the Golden Jubilee at Royal Ascot. This is a more realistic target and, although another furlong may suit him better these days; William Haggas's runner is very much respected. Elnawin also represents an in-form yard and comes here with a feasible chance of gaining a first win at this level. However, he too was not a match for Borderlescott when they met in the Palace House Stakes at the start of the season and has a tough task ahead of him if the selection finally gets the rub of the green this afternoon.
