A very hard race and stakes should be kept to a minimum, but Redwood Star put up a much improved performance here last time, and she could just be well handicapped; Hawk, Alpen Wolf and Star Of Arabia are others for the shortlist. The latter, a rare flat runner for Nick Gaselee, sprang a shock when winning at Salisbury last month but proved that was no fluke when close up at Bath last time and should go well. Alpen Wolf has been a consistent runner this year without having a great deal of luck, but he is likely to come with his customary late flourish and could sneak at least a place. Hawk has to do it from the front, and this course seems sure to suit Frankie Dettori's mount, but we'll just side with Redwood Star, who may just have more scope than most of these. She was only having the eighth start of her career when going down by just a head at 33/1 over course and distance ten days ago, is only two pounds higher now and the booking of John Egan may just be enough to see Redwood Star get her head in front for the first time.
