John Gosden's Beachfire got up close home to make a winning debut in a Lingfield maiden last month and is likely to find his first appearance on turf a tough one on his handicap debut off a mark of 80 so a better bet looks to be GALLANT EAGLE, who gets the vote ahead of Hypnotized. Michael Bell's colt has shown improved form on the Polytrack of late and was not disgraced back on turf at Newmarket behind Oasis Dancer at the beginning of the month when pulling hard and hanging left under pressure late on but he should have learned form that effort. Richard Hannon's Our Boy Barrington has run well in both starts this term but an 8lb rise since his latest effort when a narrow second behind Contredanse at Windsor looks harsh. Willie Muir's Paintball has run to a decent level of form this term and should be thereabouts again but he gets little respite from the handicapper and of more interest may be Roger Charlton's lightly raced Soul Station, who made a pleasing reappearance and handicap debut when a close fourth behind Verdant at Sandown and he has every chance off the same mark today. The vote though goes the way of Sylvester Kirk's Gallant Eagle, who should improve for his first start over a mile at Chepstow at the beginning of the month with more to come over the extra furlong today.
