Verdict

This is a favourite hunting ground for David Nicholls and so with his horses bang in form Sawwaah is given the nod for this open handicap, Eden Rock and Desert Crystal may be the main rivals. Sawwaah has to shoulder top-weight here but has earned it with some excellent victories in the past, including over course and distance. He wasn't beaten far at Chester last time from a poor draw and he is a sporting choice to land this event. Eden Rock is the dark horse in the line up. He hasn't raced since beating the 90 rated Dubois back in September of 2003. But the fact that he is still with Michael Stoute suggest he still has the ability and he can go close from his current handicap mark. Desert Cristal progressed well last season, finishing with a very good third in a competitive race at Bath. She may need to drop a few pounds before winning again, but she should be involved in the finish. In a wide open contest Nouveau Riche can be expected to play a leading role, but Sawwaah looks back to his best and gets the narrow decision.
