Verdict

This has been a decent race for those in the first half dozen in the betting and for those drawn high with only one in 10 years drawn in single figures and eight drawn 16 or higher. There has been no three-year-old winner in that period although four have gone very close in finishing second and DUBAI'S TOUCH is taken to deny the classic generation's leading challengers Masaalek and Fifteen Love. The lightly-raced Gold Sovereign has been done no favours by the draw and this is a significantly tougher task than he's faced to date but Military Cross has plenty of experience and may not be unduly inconvenienced as he's usually held up anyway. Lang Shining is another leading fancy drawn low and we're not convinced that he'll be suited by this track but Illustrious Blue certainly is and travelled well for a long way on Tuesday and used to be effective at this trip. Unshakeable meanwhile is something of a standing dish in this race and is in good enough form to get into the shake-up if he gets the splits. Cape Hawk came good at Ascot last time having been very well backed on occasion but this is a deal more competitive and there are enough doubts to pass him over. There's very little to choose between Masaalek, the selection and Fifteen Love - who came home in that order behind Lovelace and Ace Of Hearts at Sandown with Flipando, Unshakeable and Lang Shining the next three back. The Tregoning runner was far better drawn on that occasion whilst both he and Fifteen Love tend to be held up which could bring about all sorts of problems from their high draws. There are no such concerns for the selection who always races prominently and he proved his durability when winning a Listed race on the second of his two runs in this week last year. We need to forgive a poor run at Doncaster but are quite prepared to do so as Mark Johnston's horses are capable of bouncing back.
