In depth

Verdict

River Indus is one of many course and distance winners in the line-up and Bob Buckler's gelding gets the narrow vote ahead of Jades Double and Lidjo De Rouge. The selection is slowly edging down the weights after a couple of average efforts, and is now just 5lb higher than his top winning mark. He will be suited by this ground and with a return to this track expected to be in his favour, a big run could be on the cards. Lidjo De Rouge was hugely progressive last season but as a consequence he was hammered by the handicapper and hasn't been able to cut the mustard in some good races this year. He will appreciate this easier company but he may still be high enough in the weights, despite William Biddick's handy 7lb claim. Jades Double is a mare who has shown a fondness for this track in the past, and goes well for her local trainer down here, whilst Novi Sad and Scarlet Mix have claims if back to their best, with the latter needing close attention in the betting. At a price Cardenas could run into a place, however it is River Indus who gets the tentative vote.
