In depth

Verdict

His claims are hardly compelling but MARINE SPIRIT may be the best option here ahead of Cuts Both Ways and Subtefuge. The five horses to have finished in front of the selection on his two runs to date are probably above average but he didn't really improve as much from his first to second start as might have been expected. However, he's done enough to think that he can win an average maiden and this may well fit the bill. The John Dunlop statistics referred to in the opener bring Persian Heroine into the equation but everything about her pedigree shouts that this test will be inadequate. Hold Your Colour and Love Match are entitled to progress but of more interest may be Cuts Both Ways and Subtefuge. The Henry Cecil filly is potentially well drawn against the stands' side rail and hails from a nice family whilst Paul Cole's colt was a relatively expensive purchase and represents a yard with juvenile talent. As ever, the market will be interesting but Marine Spirit is selected.
