Verdict
With the Mick Channon stable in good form it might pay to side with IMPERIAL WALTZER to win first time out, while stablemate Calormen and Shafgaan may emerge as the dangers. Both West Ilsley inmates are sired by Imperial Dancer, who had winning form on heavy ground, so they should not be hampered by conditions, but it is Imperial Waltzer, whose brother was placed from 5f to 7f at this age and whose half-brother won over the trip as a juvenile, who gets the vote on account of that pedigree. Calormen is the son of juvenile seller winner in Queen Of Narnia, whose sister Garlogs won three times over the minimum trip, so he also has a decent pedigree in context and should be capable of a bold showing. Shafgaan represents another in-form yard, that of Clive Brittain, and he has arguably the best pedigree of the lot here, though he does need to prove that he handles deep ground and those bloodlines suggest that he will be better when the ground dries out. Babich Bay should handle conditions but will be seen to better effect over further, while Molly Mylenis cost very little when considering her pedigree and is bred to show up well here. Given that they are all newcomers to the game in this contest a market check is strongly advised, but without that knowledge Imperial Waltzer is selected.
