Verdict

Potentiale gained a well-deserved first success when landing a Goodwood handicap but the John Hills-trained gelding faces no easy task under his penalty and a better bet looks to be EMPEROR COURT, who gets the verdict over Constant Cheers. Walter Swinburn's gelding has been running consistently well of late and has solid claims off the same mark as when a close up fifth at Bath last time having won here over course and distance off a 3lb lower mark previously. Saltagioo struggled to win a claimer over a mile at Sandown last time when with Marco Botti and is likely to struggle in this grade on his first start for Ian Wood. Simon Dow's Kaleo is likely to find this tougher than the claimer that he won over course and distance last month but he does go well here and makes more appeal than Sri Kuantan. Richard Guest's gelding has finished last in each of his last two starts and looks best watched in a race taken to go to Emperor Court. Peter Makin's five-year-old was good value for his win at Haydock in June, has run well when narrowly beaten in two starts since then and he has an obvious chance off the same mark as when beaten a length at Windsor last month.
