Verdict
Saucy Brown was a winner here last time and Akhenaten put in a cracking effort to finish second at Newmarket a week ago. Both have solid claims but we are going to side with Mark Johnston's PROCLAIM. The colt has been a rapid improver since returning to sprint trips this season, winning over this course and distance just three starts ago and registering quite an impressive victory at Ripon last month. He ran with plenty of credit at Newmarket last time, off a mark 14lb higher than when last victorious but he may still be fairly handicapped. He should prove effective here and can probably win off this mark. Everything went right for Saucy Brown when he was last seen at the course but the 3lb rise in the weights could make him hard to place successfully. The Mick Channon trained Akhenaten is a son of Derby winner High Chaparral who travelled well when finishing ahead of the selection last time, but could not quite get to the winner. He clearly has the ability to win, but will require a good gallop at this distance for him to be fully effective. This should prove to be a very competitive affair where Proclaim is tipped to score.
