Godolphin's AUXERRE has drawn stall 17 but Charlie Appleby won this in 2016 with Secret Brief, who was in 22. He's been well touted for this since completing a hat-trick at Kempton in October which was only his fourth start and a mark of 100 could be seriously underestimating his ability. David Barron won this back in 1991 with Amenable and he'll have Kynren, third in last year's Spring Mile, revved up for this. He competed with distinction in many of the top mile handicaps last season finishing with a close fifth in the Balmoral Handicap at Ascot in October. South Seas was 3l behind in that latter contest and has moved to Philip Kirby while Humbert, another who is on the move, was a long way behind. Now with David O'Meara, who scored with Bravery in 2017, the latter is better judged on his second in the Spring Mile though he'd been in superb form on the all-weather prior to that run. Saltonstall represents Ado McGuiness, who has been in fine form in Ireland, and he carried a big weight to victory in a tough handicap at the Curragh in May. Chiefofchiefs will be fitter than most having won a Kempton handicap in January before running at Listed and Group 3 level. Safe Voyage has begun the last two seasons with a victory while Ripp Orf beat a strong field in the 7f Cunard Handicap at Ascot in September and has no problems staying the extra. Zwayyan was beaten just over a length by Silver Quartz over the straight mile at Ascot in September and comes here with a penalty after beating Breden a length in the trial for this at Wolverhampton.
