Verdict

Cut in the ground will suit Smokey Oakey, who is taken to land the Lincoln as it returns to Town Moor, while Blythe Knight and Prince Forever are among numerous others with chances. The Mark Tompkins-trained selection was last seen out when winning with plenty of cut at Ayr in November, and he sees out 10 furlongs, so a strongly run race with stamina being brought into the equation out to suit. He is drawn down the middle so he does at least have the option of going either side and he can score. Blythe Knight won last year's Redcar renewal but is fully 15lb higher now. That will make things doubly difficult but the race is sure to be run to suit and he is fit from the Champion Hurdle last week so don't rule out a repeat. Prince Forever was reported as one of Michael Jarvis's leading lights in 2006 but we only saw him once last year when slightly disappointing. The step up in trip will suit and he looks almost certain to improve so merits respect. Karl Burke saddles Raptor, who has some solid form on offer and acts with cut, while the draw has seen him get a high pitch. The four-year-old Vitznau should enjoy this step up in trip and the conditions, while Very Wise would be capable if at his best first time up. Babodana won this four years ago off a 13lb higher mark so and acts on the ground, so he too is respected but preference is for stablemate Smokey Oakey to land the season's traditional curtain raiser.
