A tough one to call and a far from confident selection goes the way of Jack Reacher, who can scrap it out with fellow debutantes John Keats and Critic, while Grandad Bill may improve for the step up to six furlongs and is worth noting for signs of support. Critic represents a yard that do well with their first-time out juveniles and this son of Fasliyev could well be forward enough to do his bit to add to the statistics today. He is definitely one to watch in the betting. John Keats comes from a stable that had a juvenile winner here at the start of the season and has to be respected on pedigree. However, John Gosden's runners do tend to get better with experience and he may be best watched this time around. So preference goes to Jack Reacher, who is bred to make an impact at this sort of trip. His dam was a very speedy individual that showed her mettle in the Flying Childers at this course in 1999, whereas his sire, Royal Applause, was a precocious type that his first four races in good style as a youngster. Kevin Darley has a 19% strike-rate with Mark Johnston's two-year-olds and his knowledge of the track at Doncaster can help Jack Reacher in his bid to get off the mark at the first time of asking.
