Macroy, Kyzer Chief and FROMSONG look likely to be leading players in the opener and preference is just for the last-named. The selection represents the in-form Dean Ivory and despite being long in the tooth, he has been in very good form of late himself. He won a Kempton claimer over this trip in March and then after a bit of a break, came back last month to go a close second off a 1lb lower mark in handicap company. The minimum trip and fast ground suits and he should go very close. Macroy is a maiden after eight starts but a return to his Warwick form from May entitles him to have a big say, and the yard is also among the winners at present. Kyzer Chief has not won since April of last year but trip and ground suit and he is a few pounds below that successful mark so he could go much better today. Bertie Southstreet went close at Beverley last time and remains on an attractive mark so he has to have claims, though Fromsong gets the vote.
