Devotion to Duty, Alcalde and Mr Freddy look the principals in a competitive handicap, with DEVOTION TO DUTY taken to follow up on ground he clearly relishes. Mr Freddy has been running consistently and is already a winner this season but was found wanting off a higher mark last time when made favourite. He receives weight from the principals here however and can give a good account on a surface he handles. Alcalde won on both his starts as a juvenile and his belated seasonal debut is a slight concern. He had to struggle at odds on to confirm favouritism after a decisive debut win and he is best watched on his return. Having thought good enough to contest the Dee Stakes where he was disappointing, Devotion to Duty made no mistake in handicap company next time, battling well on an easy surface. He is unexposed and can progress further. Devotion to Duty has a fitness edge on Alcalde and can make that tell in this testing ground.
