        Verdict

        Favourites have a less than spectacular record in this but it still remains difficult to oppose BOLT D’ORO. Mick Ruis’ unbeaten colt will likely start a short price having routed the opposition in a Grade 1 trial at Santa Anita and recording an outstanding speed figure to boot. Solomini was over seven lengths behind the selection having won on his debut here earlier and beating Bahamian in the process but Firenze Fire won the Grade 1 Champagne Stakes at Belmont with Good Magic and Hazit behind and looks a genuine threat. Free Drop Billy won a Grade 1 prep-race at Keeneland in fine style last time having finished second to Firenze Fire in July but it’s a big ask for Aidan O’Brien’s Middle Park and Dewhurst winner, U S Navy Flag, to produce his best racing on Dirt for the first time today.
