      Verdict

      Sovereign had his day of glory on this day a year ago when gaining a shock 6 lengths victory in the Derby. The fact that he hasn't run subsequently is an obvious concern and he'll be taken on over this 1m6f by several confirmed stayers including last year's surprise winner MASTER OF REALITY. Joseph O'Brien's charge, beaten a length by Stradivarius in the Gold Cup and a very close fourth in the Melbourne Cup, will be primed for this as will stable companion Twilight Payment, who won this in 2018 when trained by Jim Bolger. Falcon Eight beat the latter over the trip in a Leopardstown Listed contest last May and further rain would enhance his claims.
