In depth

Verdict

This has been a very good race for UK raiders and Kevin Ryan was successful in 2005 and 2009 with Benbaun. The Yorkshire-based handler saddles Brando here and the four-year-old is improving at a rate of knots having followed his narrow defeat in the Wokingham with a Group 3 victory at Sandown. Fellow traveller MECCA'S ANGEL, who was beaten when odds-on for this last year, has also let supporters down in her last two starts since landing the Nunthorpe in August. She was already beaten when impeded in the King's Stand Stakes but had run the winner, Profitable, close at Haydock a couple of weeks earlier and may have been feeling the effects. Sole Power was virtually unbeatable in top sprints a couple of years ago but was behind the selection in the Nunthorpe and his stablemate, the lightly-raced and progressive Fort Del Oro, could prove more of a threat.
