        Verdict

        Pike Corner Cross won over a mile at Kempton before going close again over today’s trip at Newbury. Rob Hornby’s allowance helps him out today but LOPITO DE VEGA is still preferred. The latter finished ahead of a subsequent winner when runner-up in soft ground over track and trip last time and should make another bold bid on that evidence. Best Tamayuz won on faster going than this at Nottingham in May and remains 5lb higher despite a couple of subsequent defeats while Omotesando finished ahead of The Character when fourth at Chester though he failed to trouble the winner.
