Verdict

SIR ISAAC NEWTON was surprisingly beaten when long odds-on in a four-runner race at Dundalk and will need to do very much better if he's win this before taking up one of his three engagements at Royal Ascot. He'll be a short-priced favourite here and doesn't look one to trust entirely but gets another chance. His stablemate General Macarthur is likely to find this trip more to his liking after finishing last of five over a mile at Dundalk and there looks to be more to come from him. Portage was a very smart handicapper last term finishing runner-up in the Cambridgeshire here and a close fifth in the Newmarket version. He deserves a step-up in grade and should win good races this season. Chemical Charge looked a smart prospect in the autumn of 2014 and is very interesting on his belated return while the remaining pair are both useful without quite ticking the right boxes.
