CARTAGO was no match for Irish Derby entry Imperial Aviator in a hot handicap at Newbury but he still finished ahead of a host of previous winners. That looks stronger form than the Nottingham maiden Poet's Word won last month though the latter has plenty of scope for further improvement and Sir Michael Stoute sent out last year’s winner. Banish and High Grounds are other maiden winners to note with the latter dropping down in class after a couple of modest efforts in Derby trials while Bathos was well ahead of Scarlet Dragon and Finelcity when scoring at Goodwood and is preferred to stablemates Champagne City and Soldier In Action. Dark Devil is one to note stepping up in trip today after a third at Chester.
