In depth

Verdict

Serre Chevalier can make the most of a decent draw to see off the likes of Lord Of The East, Sea Storm and Compton's Eleven in a wide-open handicap. Serre Chevalier gave Walter Swinburn his first Newmarket training success when scoring in May, and that form has worked out, with the third, Pango, scoring at Epsom on Wednesday. Serre Chevalier has had just the one run since, when failing to defy a six-pound penalty, also at Epsom in June. That run was too bad to be true, and he has been rested since, so hopes are high that he can bounce back from a break to show his true form, with ground and draw in his favour. Lord Of The East makes a quick reappearance after failing to follow up an earlier success at the Surrey track just two days ago. He had too much use made of him on his first start for his current yard and if he can settle better here he should be in the shake-up. Sea Storm has a chance as well on his Ayr victory the time before last but needs to shake off a disappointing effort at Redcar, while Compton's Eleven has topweight and a poor draw into the bargain to contend with. For the winner we return to Serre Chevalier.
