Verdict

The Whistling Teal made an encouraging return in the John Porter at Newbury three weeks ago and has to be respected at the weights today but he is strictly held by Newbury winner Mubtaker, who is taken to follow up here with Compton Bolter rated the best of the remainder. Gerard Butler's nine-year-old never threatened in the John Porter and is better than his showing at the Berkshire venue would suggest but he does not win very often these days and is hard to back with any confidence. James Eustace's Orcadian is a capable performer but would probably prefer a softer surface, while Arbella needs to improve on all known evidence. Mubtaker is a classy individual and showed at Newbury that he retains all of his ability so he gets the vote to follow up.
