A 6lb rise for his romp at Brighton last time does not look nearly enough to prevent GULF PRESIDENT from following up, while Shy, Carter and Spinning Waters should be fighting out the minors. The Tim Vaughan-trained selection did not look an easy ride at the Sussex track, but once he picked up he went clear over a furlong out to win by eight lengths. In the context of this race that was impressive, and a repeat effort would make him very tough to beat. Little else looks to be in great form, with Shy a maiden after 15 starts and likely to be hampered by ground conditions, and Spinning Waters already proving beatable from today's mark of 50 despite going well on fast ground. Carter is another exposed runner who is weighted to get competitive and has definite frame claims. Nothing else makes serious appeal and the race all revolves around whether Gulf President can come up with a similar effort to the one he produced at Brighton. If he can, then there should only be one winner. Jonathan Doidge.
