In depth

Verdict

A pretty poor handicap with Cantabilly, Merchant Bankes, Mucho Loco and Noble Nova on the short list and we take Cantabilly to be good enough. Mick Channon's colt doesn't have the best of draws here from the six box, but he does handle cut well, runs to a consistent level of form and this is his optimum trip, so he is fancied to break his duck. Merchant Bankes drops back in trip from 12 furlongs here and doesn't look to have the pace for a mile, although the heavy ground will bring his stamina more into play and he could make the frame. Mucho Loco is tried over a mile for the first time and handled good to soft well at Salisbury last time. The trip should be ideal and if he can cope with this bottomless going then there could be more to come. Of the others, Noble Nova looks about the best and has won with cut in the ground. She is inconsistent however, and cannot be trusted, so we'll take Cantabilly to score.
