Pileon could be a useful recruit to the chasing ranks as he was lightly raced over hurdles and ran a cracker for one with little experience when only beaten a short-head in the Martin Pipe here in March. But we’ll rely on the experience of SOUTHFIELD STONE, who has only won once over the larger obstacles so far but was just caught by Who Dares Wins in a Grade 2 at Kempton in February on his final start last season. Coole Cody wasn’t beaten far by an improver at Newton Abbot last month while Not That Fuisse wasn’t winning out of turn at Perth and can build on that.
Coole Cody (IRE) 13-8fav (11-12) Raced keenly tracking leaders, left in 2nd place and slightly hampered 3 out, 1 length down and held last, no extra run-in, 2nd of 6, 2 1/4l behind Soldier Of Love (12-2) at Newton Abbot 3m 2f (3) gd in Sep.
Not That Fuisse (FR) 7-2 (11-2) Held up towards rear, headway travelling strongly 4 out, close up 2 out, upsides last, pushed out run-in, cosily, won at Perth 2m 4f (3) gs in Sep beating Carrolls Milan (10-9) by 1 1/2l, 5 ran.
Southfield Stone 5-1 (11-0) Raced wide, chased leaders, went left 1st, mistake and lost place slightly 12th, rallied and left 3rd next, 2nd 3 out, went left last, led next, hung left and headed run-in, stayed on same pace, 2nd of 7, 3/4l behind Who Dares Wins (11-0) at Kempton 2m 4f (1) gs in Feb.
Pileon (IRE) 9-1 (11-2) Tracked leaders, headway before 2 out, led between last 2, ridden and hard pressed when left 3 lengths clear last, kept on, headed post, 2nd of 23, shd behind Indefatigable (11-9) at Cheltenham 2m 4f hcp (2) sft in Mar.
