In depth

Verdict

Despite being a half-sister to the stable's Winged d'Argent and Mana d'Argent, Mark Johnston's Desert d'Argent may well be good enough over this sharp six furlongs as those with racing experience, the best of who look to be Lipizza and Automation, make very limited appeal. Mullady Penelope would be of interest first time out but trainer Anne Duffield is hardly known for her success with juveniles on their first outing. Alan Berry's The Salwick Flyer gave little sign of encouragement on his debut, while Optical Seclusion seems to have gone backwards since a promising start to his career. Neville Callaghan's Lipizza has only beaten four horses home in her two starts so far and is difficult to recommend on that evidence, while Automation was well beaten over this trip at Pontefract first time out and should do better over further. The same comment probably applies to Winged d'Argent but she would not need to be out of the ordinary to win this.
