In depth

Verdict

Sweet Potato, Cava Bien, Naval Force, and Dan's Heir are shortlisted for the finale and the tentative vote goes to the first named. David Barron's filly showed very little on the turf last season but his form with a vengeance on the all-weather at Southwell last time. She stayed on resolutely over that mile trip to beat Kirkhammerton by three and a half lengths. Today's extra distance should be ideal and she looks the one to beat. Cava Bien ended last season with a game win at Yarmouth and doesn't look harshly treated here. Meanwhile Naval Force has to enter calculations on his recent second to Terminate at Lingfield. However Dan's Heir looks the main rival to the selection, he looks to have been crying out for this trip and gets in her on a nice racing weight. All in all a very tricky event but Sweet Potato is in top form and can make it back to back victories.
