Mark Johnston has to be respected when introducing a late developing type such as Melpomene at this stage of the season, but preference goes to King's Revenge, who will find this much easier than his previous assignment in the Redcar Two-Year-Old Trophy. Violent Velocity and Orchard Supreme look the best of the rest. Orchard Supreme ran his best race to date when cutting out the running at Bath last month. He will be suited by the track and is worth bearing in mind for each way players. Violet Velocity caught the eye near the finish on his debut at York and can be expected to have benefited from the run. A solid move for him will be dangerous to ignore. Melpomene makes appeal on pedigree and has been found a lowly race to make his introduction. Still, it is safe to assume that he would have been seen before now if he were anything special and his lack of experience is a little off-putting. Therefore, it can pay to give King's Revenge one more chance to deliver the goods this season. Tim Easterby's charge very much sets the standard on what they have shown so far and anything that finishes in front of him is staring at a rating in the high seventies at least. He looks the logical choice at this stage of the season.
