In depth

Verdict

Flintoff is in top form at present and should complete a hat-trick, with Mohawk Star, Moldavia and Schinken Otto out to stop him in the finale. Part-owned by the Lancashire and England cricketer of the same name, Flintoff has been placed to win three of his last four starts, and has yet to taste defeat over hurdles. He was entitled to win as easily as he did here last week in what practically amounted to a mis-match, and despite carrying a penalty now and dropped back in trip, it is hard to see just what is going to stop him scoring again. Mohawk Star was far from fluent when a beaten favourite at Huntingdon, and although Sam Thomas takes over from an amateur, he needs to improve markedly, and in any case is not certain to turn the tables on Moldavia who was in front of him in second at the Cambridgeshire track, despite being slightly better off at the weights. Schinken Otto was going the right way when last seen in January, but that absence will surely count against him, and it really is hard to escape the claims of Flintoff.
