Peter Beaumont has not wasted much time in putting Mooramana over fences and the move is expected to pay instant dividends with the six-year-old getting the verdict over Flame Phoenix and Manoubi. The last mentioned was among the best of these over hurdles but gave little cause for optimism on his chasing bow at Perth last month and a watching brief looks to be the best option. Salinas showed form at a comparable level over timber and has to be respected on his chasing debut but would probably prefer a softer surface, while Simply da Best clearly is not that but represents connections that have done well with their raiders over the last year. Flame Phoenix was probably the pick of these over hurdles but Ginger McCain's six-year-old has been well held in three starts over the larger obstacles and preference is for Mooramana, who has some decent form in novice hurdles and has always looked more likely to improve once switching to fences.
