Although he's just out of the handicap, Silver Jack caught the eye with a very easy win at Ayr last time, and he looks capable of following up carrying just 10st in very testing conditions. Granted that was in novice company, and he takes on seasoned handicappers here, but we know plenty about the rest of them and none are open to much improvement, whereas Martin Todhunter's seven-year-old has his best years ahead of him and can do the business in ground he loves. Miss Mattie Ross will have support after her game Kelso success, though she does seem to reserve her best for that track, and whether she can repeat it is open to question. Kerry Lads may do better, given that he loves it here and is also a mudlark, though he looks to be in the grip of the handicapper. Grattan Lodge is coming back down to somewhere near a winning mark and he's another who loves track and ground, and with the yard going better he could go well despite top weight, but Silver Jack has untapped potential and can continue winning form here.
