      Verdict

      Gifted Flame can defy topweight at the expense of Redwood Rocks, Digital and Uhuru Peak. Gifted Flame improved enough on his third outing of the season to score over the course and distance nine days ago, beating Royal Windmill by two lengths. That was David Barrons' gelding's third success on this track, and although he has been upped four-pounds, he should go close as long as they go a decent pace. With Attacca in the line up that should be the case, and he can pick them off up the hill again. Redwood Rocks was given a canny ride by today's pilot when making all at Redcar and he appears to be well treated now for his return to handicap company. Digital is also well handicapped these days but has not visited the winner's enclosure since 2003, despite Mick Channon sending him the length and breadth of the country. He is likely to be there or thereabouts again though, along with Uhuru Peak, successful in a couple of lady riders' events before flopping at Pontefract. Those at the bottom of the weights make little appeal on recent form, and Gifted Flame is the one to beat.
