A number of old rivals are brought back together for this afternoon's finale at Beverley and ACE OF SPIES is our fancy to fend off Rossini's Dancer, Royal Applord and Just Sam. It would also be noteworthy to see if the market speaks in favour of Carpe Diem, who is an unexposed individual that starts this season on a fair mark and may have plenty more to offer. Just Sam was second to Royal Applord in a claimer here last season and has been mainly consistent since then. His last two starts have been most encouraging and he may be able to pay his way at a modest level before long. Royal Applord, on the other hand, can be hard to predict and would never be one to recommend for a maximum stakes play. Still, he does know how to force his head in front and could make the frame if he stays out of trouble. Rossini's Dancer was just over two lengths adrift of the selection when they met here a fortnight ago. And has a bit to find on a literal reading of that form. Still he is a course and distance winner and is capable of exploiting any weakness shown by the rest. Nevertheless, Ace Of Spies arrives here in the form of his life and, as he is open to improvement at the trip, the mount of Silvestre De Sousa is taken as the one to be on again today.
