Several of these have chances in a competitive finale including Fairy Monarch, 11/2 Gem Bien and Pepper Road but the handicapper looks to have taken a chance with Emperor's Well and he gets the vote. The selection has amazingly been dropped 5lbs since his most recent start and is now 6lbs lower than when scoring over course and distance last September so looks worth chancing at the weights. Nigel Tinkler's Cryfield has run up to his mark in his last two starts and can be expected to run his usual good race, while Tokewanna cannot be ruled out with Mark Brisbourne's stable back among the winners. Top weight Charleston Lover seemed to show improved form last time and is another to consider along with recent Pontefract scorer Fairy Monarch, although he may now be a shade high in the weights. Gem Bien holds solid claims on recent evidence and has to be respected, while a market move for Pepper Road would be of interest. Emperor's Well has slipped to a decent mark now though and is taken to make the most of his current rating.
