    Verdict

A high draw is absolutely essential here, so the short list consists of Penny Hapenny, Time N Time Again, Tommy Smith and CD Europe, with the latter just preferred. Kevin Ryan's five-year-old, a smart performer at two and three for Mick Channon, landed something of a gamble at Hamilton recently in smooth fashion, and looks a horse to follow until beaten. He is still on a very lenient mark, and can get a nice pitch on the far side here, before picking his rivals off inside the final furlong. He should get a good tow from Tommy Smith, who showed blistering speed for four furlongs at Thirsk last week and gave signs that he could just be coming to hand. Time N Time Again is another who likes to be up in the firing line and is also fairly treated on his best form, so is one to consider on his reappearance, as is Penny Hapenny, who finished last season with three wins out of four, and was in front of Tommy Smith when a good second on her seasonal debut.
