Verdict
Desert Poppy showed some promise on her debut in a Kempton maiden earlier this month but Walter Swinburn's filly will need to improve on that effort to get the better of RAKAAN, who is hard to oppose with Memorandum looking the most interesting of the opposition. The selection was disappointing in a valuable sales race at Doncaster last time and has been expensive to follow but he looks worth one more chance in this company. Brian Meehan's colt was probably flattered in finishing a decent third in the Coventry Stakes and has been expensive to follow since then but he sets a decent standard and is the one they all have to beat. Rae Guest's Hill Of Miller has shown a decent level of form without ever looking like troubling the judge, while Willie Muir's Dream Number ran better at Ffos Las last time and has to be considered following that effort. Reddy To Star has not progressed for Clive Cox as may have been expected and has disappointed in his last two starts so a bigger threat may come from Memorandum. Roger Charlton's filly lacks any racecourse experience but the daughter of Oasis Dream is bred to be useful and it would come as no surprise to see her being good enough to win at the first time of asking. Rakaan has easily the best form among those to have raced though and he is taken to gain an overdue success.
