Verdict

SLIP is preferred to Dr Livingstone and Deep Winter in this intriguing contest. Marcus Tregoning boasts a twenty six per cent strike rate with the classic generation at the highest racecourse in the United Kingdom and there are reasons enough to believe that Slip can improve on his tally. Prior to his last two starts her form stands up to close inspection with a narrow victory from Ascot Lime and narrow defeat to Novikov reading particularly well and there are excuses for both subsequent outings. He failed to take to Kempton and didn't have the race run to suit at Newbury although the fitting of cheekpieces suggest that connections feel he may be keeping a little back; with that in mind, the energetic Ryan Moore may prove to be the ideal partner for him and the headgear could bring about further improvement. He probably needs to run a career best to win here as the opposition is strong. Dr Livingstone was a surprise winner at Sandown but he has always had ability and the form of the race is strong; he should be competitive from his revised mark if building on the performance. It's no real surprise that Deep Winter has struggled to show her best at Chester and Goodwood given the way that she has ground out victories at Carlisle and Ayr this season and the straight here should be long enough for her to mount a challenge with conditions ideal but Slip is taken to prevail.
