In depth

Verdict

This looks to concern Golden Acer, She's Minnie, Halcyon Lodge and Bel Cantor, and we will give Golden Acer one more chance to come good. A promising debut from Richard Hannon's colt was not really built upon last time, when he was beaten fair and square at Goodwood. However, his running that day suggested that this drop back to the minimum trip would suit, and we will give this speedy sort the benefit of one more chance to show us what he is capable of. A win for Violette in the opener would give supporters of She's Minnie greater confidence. The filly was beaten just over a length by Sir Mark Prescott's charge last time, and she is learning about the game all the time. 5lb off her back will help here and she is not dismissed lightly. Halcyon Lodge is going to get better over further than this, and had excuses when hampered last time, but does have a bit to prove here, while Bel Cantor is certainly a consistent sort, but keeps finding a couple too good. He probably has a race in him before the season is out, but maybe not today, as our preference here is for Golden Acer.
