HAWK MOUNTAIN impressed when landing a Nottingham handicap last time out and even a 10lb higher mark is not likely to be enough to prevent John Quinns' charge achieving back-to-back victories. Handicapped on the basis of three outings over inadequate trips, his first attempt at 1m 6f trip was last time out and while it was hard to evaluate whether he is a stout stayer given the ease of his victory, he looks every inch a stayer and potentially a jumper in time. Signalman, an Italian recruit made a winning UK debut off 47 and last time tried today's trip for the first time. He is every inch a stayer, battling back when headed and a 3lb higher mark should not be enough to prevent him from getting in the mix. Lisbon Lion was held up to get the trip last time out and would have to be considered a suspect stayer on the evidence of what he displayed, wandering quite badly in the closing stages. Both of Always Best's wins have been achieved on good to firm ground. He is very well handicapped on the best of his form and would be a place contender along with Blue Jet, who has shown little in two apprentice handicaps of late. Hawk Mountain is a confident selection to land this staying handicap. (John McDonnell)
