In depth

Verdict

Dear Villez gets the vote provided he is none the worse for his tumble in the Jewson at the Cheltenham festival. Prominent in the betting for the Jewson, it is noteworthy that Ruby Walsh selected Dear Villez ahead of other possible mounts in that contest. Prior to the Jewson, he impressed in landing two weak events contests and lack of match practise in more competitive contests is likely to have contributed to his fall last time. He appears versatile with regard to ground conditions and open to further improvement is selected. Last years winner, Three Mirrors beat all bar Oedipe at Aintree when ridden to get the trip which was the unknown. Back to a distance where he can be ridden more prominently he commands respect as does Edmo Yewkay who won last time despite the inadequate trip. He has had a busy season though and is likely to find one or two too good. Endless Power has got a 15lb hike for landing a conditional jockeys contest at Aintree when making all and benefiting from a decimated field. Dear Villez looked a horse of some potential and hopefully that fall at Jewson will not have effected his confidence. He could prove too classy for these.
