In depth
Verdict
Alrafidain displayed plenty of promise on his debut at Newmarket and can take this decent looking maiden from Scriptwriter and Il Colosseo. Mark Johnston's relatively expensive colt came out best of the newcomers when fourth to Pevensey at Newmarket. He was bang in with every chance entering the final furlong but just weakened in the closing stages. He is sure to benefit considerably from that introduction and must hold strong claims here. The Godolphin boys run Scriptwriter, a superbly bred colt by Saddlers Wells out of a sister to Darshaan, middle distances will be his forte in time, but he should still take a hand in the finish here. Il Colosseo could prove best of the remainder, he made a promising debut at Redcar after causing problems in the stalls and is open to plenty of improvement. There may be some classy types come out of this event, but Alrafidain looks the one to be on today.
